Japanese scientists say they've developed a method to recover rare earth metals from used products without producing toxic liquid waste. The method is attracting attention as Japan faces a shortage of imports of the minerals from China.
A senior Chinese government official has again denied that China is banning exports of rare earth metals to Japan. The deputy director general of the Ministry of Commerce's department of foreign trade, Jiang Fan, spoke at an annual international rare earth conference held in the city of Xiamen in China on Tuesday.
